Launch of a multi-stakeholder platform for the promotion of peasant innovations in ecological agriculture and natural resources management

As part of the launch of activities of the project to promote experimentation and peasant innovation in the Gulf of Guinea, the Action Center for Food Security and Sustainable Development (CASAD) conducted on January 23, 2016 in Glazoué at launch of a multi-actor platform for the promotion of peasant innovations in ecological agriculture and natural resource management.

This platform brings together eight (08) non-governmental organizations, four (04) professional agricultural organizations, agricultural advisers and academics (the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Abomey Calavi). The platform’s mission is to defend family farming and its professionalisation in accordance with regional and sub-regional policies. This platform has five objectives:

Promote local innovations in ecological agriculture and natural resource management in Benin;
Work towards the development and implementation of national agricultural development policies and programs adapted to farmers’ innovations in Benin;
Contribute to strengthening the institutional, organizational and management capacities of its members.
Promote and defend the values ​​of a sustainable and efficient peasant agriculture at the service of family farms and agricultural producers;
Promote consultation and cooperation between the different actors.

At the end of the discussions, the platform is structured in 5 parts (Works packages), and five main axes were identified:

WP2-Information and Communication System;
WP3-Capacity Building;
WP4-advocacy for coherence of policy frameworks;
WP5- Coordination and management.
